Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Building Department is to provide quality service to the community that is knowledgeable, efficient, comprehensive and helpful to the public. The intention is to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the construction, quality of materials, use of all buildings and structures within the Town of Acton. The department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the uniform codes and related Federal, State, and Local adopted laws and ordinances.

New Fossil Fuel Free Building Demonstration Program

The Opt-In Specialized Stretch Energy Code went into effect on January 1st, 2024 and the Municipal Fossil Fuel Free (FFF) Building Demonstration Program will go into effect on March 21st, 2024 in Acton.

The Opt-In Specialized Stretch Energy Code requires builders to meet high-performance standards and prepare buildings for all-electric heating and cooling.

Through The Municipal Fossil Fuel Free (FFF) Building Demonstration Program, Acton will require new building construction or major renovation projects to be fossil fuel free.

Please note that a new permit fee schedule will be in effect starting August 10, 2023.
