Early Voting Application for 2020 Elections

You may apply now for your mail-in Early Voting Ballot September 1st State Primary Election as well as November 3rd State Election

Deadline to apply for Early Voting by mail:

For the September 1st Primary, Wed, August 26 – 5:00 PM
For the November 3rd Election, Wed, October 28 – 5:00 PM

November 3rd - Presidential Election
    Voter Registration  - October 25, 2020
        Early Voting available in person

Voting in Acton

Voter registration must be completed by the deadline in order to vote in a given election. Last day to register to vote for any election held on or before 12/31/20 will be 10 days prior to election.  Click here to register: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/OVR/

August 22, 2020 – last day to register for September 1st  Primary Election.
October 24, 2020 – last day to register for November 3rd  State Election

The Residents of Acton have at least two opportunities to vote for local offices and issues each year, the Annual Town Election & the Annual Town Meeting. If an additional Special Town Election or Special Town Meeting is being called, residents will be notified once the date is set. The State Election calendar can be found here. Voter registration must be completed by the deadline in order to vote in a given election.

The Annual Town Election is held on the Tuesday immediately preceding the first Monday in April of each year. During this election voters may either vote by absentee ballot after submitting an absentee ballot application or vote at their designated polling location. The Town is divided geographically into 6 precincts. Click here for help finding your precinct.

     All precincts vote at the RJ Grey Junior High School, 16 Charter Rd.

     Polls are open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.

The Annual Town Meeting is held on the first Monday in April of each year. The Town issues a Warrant which contains all of the items being voted on. If all of the items in the Warrant are not covered on the first night, the Town Meeting will continue onto additional consecutive nights. Participants must be present in order to vote in this Parliamentary-style election.

Elected Officials

Some of the Boards and Committees in Acton are elected directly by the residents of Acton. Others are appointed by the Board of Selectmen, Moderator or Town Manager.

Offices filled by vote at the Annual Town Election or by Special Election as required are:
     Board of Selectmen - 5 Members, 3 Year Terms
     Town Moderator - 1 Year Term
     Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee - 7 of 11 Members from Acton, 3 Year Terms
     Acton Housing Authority - 3 Elected Members, 1 State Appointed, 5 Year Terms
     Acton Water District - 3 Year Terms
     Trustees of the Acton Memorial Library - 3 Members, 6 Corporate Members, 3 Year Terms

Offices elected by vote at the Annual Town Meeting include:
     Assistant Town Moderator - 1 Year Term
     Trustees of the Acton Firefighters Relief Fund - 3 Members, 3 Year Terms
     Trustees of the Charlotte Goodnow Fund - 3 Members, 3 Year Terms
     Trustees of the Elizabeth White Fund - 3 Members, 3 Year Terms
     Trustees of the West Acton Citizens’ Library - 3 Members, 3 Year Terms
