[ARCHIVED] Acton Awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Financial Report 2020

The Town of Acton has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its fiscal year 2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

This is the seventh consecutive year the Town of Acton has been so honored. The certificate is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. About 2 percent of applicants receive the certificate.

The award recognizes municipalities that meet or exceed national standards for financial reporting. These standards include demonstrating a spirit of full disclosure, and motivating potential users to read the report. The Town’s application was reviewed by an impartial panel from government, the public accounting profession, and members with specialized expertise in government financial reporting.

The Town was notified of the award on Friday, Nov. 5.

“The award is the result of the sophistication and teamwork that the Finance Department puts into documenting the Town’s finances and budget,” Town Manager Mangiaratti said. “We are appreciative to be recognized by the GFOA. Congratulations to our entire financial team for receiving this well-deserved national honor.”

“The Finance Department takes great pride in its work and ensuring that the town’s finances are open and transparent,” said Stephen Barrett, Finance Director and Treasurer/Collector. “It’s an honor to work alongside such a dedicated team that consistently performs at a high standard."

The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare comprehensive financial reports that are transparent and offer full disclosure while recognizing individual governments that achieve this goal.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) was founded in 1906 to represent public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The GFOA serves the needs of more than 20,000 federal, state/provincial, and local financial government officials. The GFOA provides top-quality publications, training programs, services and products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government finance, policy, and management.
