Town of Acton residents voted at the September 8, 2020 Special Town Meeting to support COVID-19 Small Business Grant Program.
As one of several initiatives being undertaken in Acton to assist small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Town Meeting voters approved a $165,604 grant program using a portion of the Town’s Free Cash. The funds will help these businesses cover rent and other fixed costs. Grants of up to $4,000 each are being distributed to the 43 local businesses that met the application requirements. The program targeted businesses which met the following criteria:
- Less than 35 employees.
- Less than $1.5 million in annual revenue.
- Have a physical, commercial presence in Acton.
- Demonstrated a loss of 50% or more in revenue since the COVID-19 closures in March.
"This is a true demonstration how deeply our community cares for our small businesses, and is a clear indication of how much we collectively care about their well being," Board of Selectmen Chair Jon Benson said. "Small businesses are part of the fabric of our community, and many of them give back in so many ways, like cash-in-kind contributions for local activities and events, so we’re proud to step up and support them in their hour of need."
