[ARCHIVED] Seeking Members for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Commission

Acton

Updated to include a new deadline for interested applicants

Recently the Board of Selectmen approved the charge for a new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Commission to assess diversity, equity, and inclusion in Acton, and recommend ways to improve. So many people have expressed an interest in being a member of the commission, that we’re pulling in the deadline. If you are interested, send an email to DavidMartin@ActonMA.gov before September 4 – the sooner the better. Please say why you would like to be on the Commission. Be sure to include your full name, address, and email address. (Contact information won’t be made public.)

The Commission will meet once, maybe twice, a month for about a year, starting in late September or early October. (Initially we’ll meet via Zoom, but *maybe* sometime next year, we’ll be able to meet at Town Hall.) Members will be asked to hear from people before the commission, participate in deliberations about what we hear, and eventually contribute to writing a report to the Board of Selectmen.

The charge requires that 70% of Commission members be Black or immigrant residents. Please indicated if you fall into one of those groups. (Immigrants are anyone who was born a citizen of another country. It does not matter, if you came to the US last year or 25 years ago.) You do not need to be a citizen to be a member of the Commission, but you do need to be an Acton resident.
