[ARCHIVED] Update on Storm Damage as of 9:15 am on 9/9/23

Acton

Acton was impacted by a storm on Friday September 8, 2023.

As of this morning at 9:15AM on 9/9/23 there are still over 2,000 Eversource customers without power in Acton. A portion Main Street remains detoured in front of the Woman’s Club building located at 502 Main Street. Other roads including Concord Road continue to be partially obstructed in several areas. Drivers please use caution and keep a safe distance from staff and contractors that are out there working to cleanup and restore our roadways and powerlines.

The Acton Memorial Library is running on backup generator and services will be limited today. Please watch the Acton Memorial website and social media for updates. West Acton Citizens' Library is open from 9am to 1pm. The transfer station is without power so services will be limited today.  Sticker sales will not be available today.

We do not have estimates for power restoration at this point. Eversource has approximately 40 crews in town this morning. Our DPW crews are out this morning clearing debris from roadways.

Storms that tore through Acton on Friday caused a significant amount of damage. Thousands remain without power. As of Friday night, here is a summary of the situation:

  • As of 9:05 p.m., more than 5,100 customers in town (or 49 percent) remain without power, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
  • More than 50 locations in Acton had power lines affected by falling trees and limbs.
  • 12 houses were impacted by falling trees and limbs.
  • A number of major and minor roads remain closed.
  • There are no known injuries.

Eversource is working closely with town officials to determine priority locations for restoration of power. Crews will continue to work overnight to restore service. About 1,000 customers who lost power earlier are already back online. For up-to-date information on power restoration efforts, text STAT to 23129.

First responders are closely monitoring conditions. Department of Public Works crews will begin cleanup of roadways Saturday morning. Services at the transfer station will be limited due to limited staffing and the potential of power not being restored.
