[ARCHIVED] Statement Regarding Officers on Administrative Leave

Town Manager John Mangiaratti and Police Chief Richard Burrows report that the Acton Police Department has placed two of its members on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct by the two officers.

A person who identifies themself as a former Acton-Boxborough Regional High School student, reported to an Acton Police Department sergeant that they had been the victim of past inappropriate conduct by two officers in separate incidents while the officers had been working as Acton-Boxborough Regional High School school resource officers.

The allegation was made to the sergeant during a traffic stop, and the sergeant made a report of the person's claims. In the intervening time, the Acton Police Department was also made aware that someone posted on social media detailing the same alleged conduct.

Both officers were placed on paid administrative leave, consistent with the department's collective bargaining agreement, during the investigation into this matter. Chief Burrows has consulted with the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and that office is conducting the investigation. The Acton Police Department is cooperating in that investigation.

The allegations are serious and deeply disturbing, and we take all such claims seriously. We are cooperating with and have turned over our report of this matter to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and State Police Detectives assigned to her office," Chief Burrows said.

Added Town Manager Mangiaratti: "The Town of Acton takes all allegations made against its employees seriously, and we await the conclusion of the district attorney's investigation."
