The Town utilizes separate systems for sending out emergency alerts and general Town news and events to the public. To handle and disseminate emergency alerts, the Town uses the Blackboard Connect alert system. For automated updates of general Town news, upcoming events, job postings, etc. the Town uses the Notify Me alert system. The Blackboard Connect system can be configured to deliver emergency messages through phone calls, SMS text messages, and emails, while the Notify Me system can deliver general alerts through SMS text messages and email.
The Blackboard Connect system allows the Town to quickly send out important messages and updates about emergency situations. The Notify Me portal allows users to sign up for a specific set of general Town alerts that are chosen by the user and delivered by email or SMS text message. Users can subscribe to automatic updates when different types news bulletins, bid postings, employment opportunities, and calendar updates are posted or updated.
